Personality:
Godric is a very strong person, one of the best duelists, even without magic, of his time. As the son of the lord of a large plot of land in southern England, he was raised as a very arrogant young man, but unlike his father, he believed in the good of everyone, even the peasants. He always was telling his father of these beliefs, and he was punished for spouting such beliefs. However, Godric still persisted, and viewed everyone, besides women, as equals. Some say he was ahead of his time, but he was still very racist. He just didn't see many that were differently colored skin wise, and hated the French with a passion. He views women as inferior to him as well, but otherwise, as long as you were male and born in England, he believed you should be treated equally, and ruled by those who were powerful enough in personality to look after them, and make sure they were cared for as best as possible.
Godric has an acute fear of losing those near to him. When he lost both of his parents in a raid by barbarians, he wished to avenge their deaths, make them proud, and not let anyone else he cared about get away. When he found others like him, with these special powers, Godric began plotting with the three friends to make a safe place for those like them, free to practice magic. Godric hoped that eventually the two societies could meld together and become just one community where both existed and not hated. Needless to say he was an avid idealist.
Godric is one of the most determined people in the world, for every second that is not spent working towards a goal is a second too much wasted. He has worked every year, every day, every waking second working towards a goal, and he will not give up until the goal is reached. That is how he became one of the best duelists of his age. It is also how he unlocked various fields of magic, and domesticated his phoenix Merek. Since he was shielded from magic as a child, he never knew others had the power, and thus thought that he was special for part of his life, attributing to his arrogance as well. If you really want to see him angry, it doesn't take much. The instant you insult his family, friends, or anyone that he cares about, or anything he cares about, or sends an insult directed at muggles or magical people alone, he will lash out on you. Otherwise, he is fairly nice.
Godric also has a big saving people complex, much like Harry Potter, including the fact he won't think before he dives in for a rescue, not caring if it is a trap or not. Godric is sure of himself in his fighting skills he doesn't feel he has to worry about anything, as long as he practices long enough and hard enough to keep improving and stay above everyone else. Godric is one of the few people who is willing to adapt to such a situation he is put into. He has agreed to hide his true identity, and look like a kid of this time, having some fun with these 'blasted clothes', as well as try his best to shed his old english way of talking, which is really hard for him, and he will most likely speak in the old english way for a long time until he can get used to all of these odd speech patterns.
Also, Godric tends to shout out names of moves when dueling, whether to confuse his opponents or because he just likes coming up with names. He is a very nice guy to woman, despite his sexism, and thinks they should be honored and pampered, but not fighters.

History:
Godric Gryffindor was born in England, on the land of his parents. He was always an odd child, speaking faster than most of the children of the time, and learning extremely quickly about everything that happened. Gryffindor looked up to his father with great respect, and while they clash on idealism, he saw his father as someone he wanted to be like. His parents condemned magic, and so when he found out about his powers at age 6, he thought that he was the only magical one, being shielded from the world at that point, and from even those who worked the land he lived on. It was when Gryffindor was 8 years old that the land was attacked, and his parents were killed, and he had been hidden in a secret passage so he wouldn't be killed. When he exited the hiding spot, the barbarians that had attacked were in his house eating all of their food. Little Gryffindor snuck away from the manor, stealing his father's goblin crafted sword, and ran as fast as he could. He ran until he could no more, collapsing in the woods. When he awoke, he saw the face of a lovely young lady, Rowena Ravenclaw, who had brought him from the woods and to her house, despite her being two years younger than he had been.
Godric lived with Rowena, where he met the nearby son of Slytherin, one of the peasants working the land, Salazar, and the two became friends quickly. The two boys were inseparable. Gryffindor was more of a duelist with a sword and shield while Salazar was more of a magical person. The two trained together until they fell asleep, sometimes still outside, with their weapons nearby. At the age of 10, Gryffindor spotted a phoenix flying in the sky, and immediately wished he could have one. It took a long time to be able to capture the phoenix, but once he did, he cared for the phoenix, keeping it caged, but slowly domesticating the bird, naming him Merek. However, before he caught Merek, a girl around his age called for help during one of the boy's training sessions in the woods nearby. Of course the two boys saved the young girl from an attack of robbers, and Godric was injured fairly seriously. Godric managed to get through, however, even though he had a bad gash down his chest from the attackers. Rowena healed Godric once more, and they learned that the girl was Helga Hufflepuff, who was running away from her father, because she did not want to marry an old man while being such a young child (she was around 10 at this time).
Rowena convinced her parents to let Helga stay there. By the time the four were 12, the four were the greatest of friends, especially between Salazar and Godric, despite their differences. Rowena and Helga were great friends as well. The four came up with an idea, since those who practiced magic were hated, and they had to hide it from Rowena's parents. They would create a school where they taught magic to young children, and gave them a safe place to be while learning, and afterwards. So when the four turned 14, Rowena and Helga managing to stay unmarried at that time, they left Rowena's place, and began to build a school in the sea, away from everyone. The four stole a castle from England, to which people never found out what had happened, and enchanted the castle everyday, Godric and Salazar doing the enchanting while Rowena and Helga created the spells they did not know yet. At age 17, they were ready to bring students in, which was the reason why 17 was the adult age when one would graduate from Hogwarts.
By this time, Gryffindor had been a very well known criminal for magic, word not getting to Rowena's family until they were 15 years old, and already away from home. The other three were not quite as outspoken, and did not advertise their idea for the school quite as much, but were also criminals, and wanted. By the time they were 17, all four were known throughout England for being witches and wizards, which the authorities didn't realize or care, was a plan by Gryffindor to get their names known for standing up for what they were, and raise hopes for others like them, which worked in the end, due to their infamy, or famousity, depending who one asked.
The following happens after Godric's memory that he has due to him being pulled from his time, but for reference otherwise.
The four began training students, while improving the school, and the first few groups even helped improve the school even farther, with their fresh ideas. At first it was hard to get students to come, so sometimes there would be a year of 2 or 3 students, for the first decade there was at most 20 students in a year. The start was rough, the four were young, and there was a lot of trial and error they went through, but after their first decade everything had been running fairly smoothly. Their students normally went home after their years at Hogwarts, but some stayed nearby and became the first inhabitants of a village known as Hogsmeade.
Later, when Godric was around 25 years old, towards the end of their life during this time, life expectancy only being 30 to 40 years at this point, despite the fact wizards tended to live longer (since this fact was not very well known at the time, so he believed he was towards the end), he heard of a story of his mother, being alive in his family's old manor. Godric decided he would go and check if the claims had any validity, and his three friends joined him on the journey. They found his 40 year old mother alive but on the brink of death, at the manor, ruled by the barbarians who killed his father. Godric insisted on freeing her, and so the four reclaimed the manor, sparing a few barbarians who fled the scene, to give warning to other Frenchmen not to mess with the English. Godric found that when he had gotten to his mother, she was already dead, and must have been dead for a couple of days. Godric went on, and he gave the Gryffindor land to magical people who graduated if they wanted it, and they formed a tiny village, where nonmagical people were welcome to come and live as well as the magical.
When Godric was around 35 years old, a decade later, surprised he did not feel weak or old, the four began worrying about how to sort the students after they had died. Salazar came up with an idea of placing essence of them into an object and that object would decide. Godric offered his nice pointed hat, which was actually quite good looking at the time, not the ratty looking one of the now. Rowena managed to come up with the spell that would enchant the hat, and thus, the sorting hat was formed. However, Salazar had over the years been pressing for only those with parents that were only magical to attend Hogwarts, but the three others disagreed. Salazar had gotten upset, and left after a heated argument which turned into a duel which Salazar lost, and Gryffindor had mercy on Salazar, telling him he had to leave the castle and not return until he dropped the whole notion; Slytherin left and never returned to Hogwarts, as far as Gryffindor knew. Fearing that Salazar had left a trap later on for his goals of pure magical attendance, Gryffindor sealed his sword into the hat, and made it so only a true Gryffindor could retrieve it in a time of need. He was confident that if Slytherin's trap was sprung, a Gryffindor would combat it, and the sword would help that Gryffindor win, almost assuring that Slytherin's plan would fail. Gryffindor had married and had one son, Geoffry, only because he needed an heir, before he died at age 43, younger than other wizards because of a terrible disease that had been going around they could not yet cure.
