Once and Future (Scorpius)

She didn't really have anyone to send a letter to. She hadn't even been born  yet; that would be an awkward conversation with her parents that she wasn't interested in having. Her brother, Vash, had somehow managed to wriggle his way back in time, but Vash was off doing...Vash things that she didn't care to be part of out of fear that they were illegal. Still, this was Cold War-era Europe, and she was very tall, very quiet, and very German; the occasional awkward look happened.

If there was one thing that drove Eliza bonkers, it was awkward looks.

In the interests of preserving her own sanity, she'd retreated to the relative quiet of the owlery to visit her Eagle owl, Frederic. She liked the funny creature, and it was nice to encounter things that couldn't talk. Since her sister and Gabe were both in classes at the moment, she'd brought her niece and nephew along. They seemed to like the owls....well, Lexi did. She was cooing and making little spit bubbles and turning her hair a big rainbow of colors as she reached for the birds. Julius was, as usual, a lot more quiet. Neither of them was crying, though, so something was being done right, she figured. It was peaceful, and nice, and she hoped that somebody didn't decide to screw it all up. There seemed to be no shortage of people in Hogwarts, in her own time or this one.

She smiled a little and adjusted her hold on Lexi. The kid wanted to get down, it seemed, but Bri had been very clear when she instructed Eliza to not put Lexi down in high places. The little bugger had started rolling around recently.

"Liebling," she chided. "Settle down."

Scorpius was tired of the Slytherins. Having the name Malfoy and being the "several times removed cousin of Lucius made him the perfect Hufflepuff target for Slytherins. He could not believe that Slyterhins were so horrible in this time period. When he was from they had changed from when Voldemort was in power. They were nicer, more tolerant of the other houses. They were still cunning and ambitious but not as cruel. Scorpius was so pissed off at being picked on and he had decided to go to the owlery to hide. He climbed the stairs slowly, wondering whether his father had been as bad a Slytherin as Scorpius's year mates. He ran a hand through his pale blond hair and sighed, this sort of thinking just wasn't his thing. He walked into the owlery and stopped dead in his tracks. The usually empty tower was filled with a really tall girl and two little children. "Um, sorry, I didn't realize anyone would be in here," he said, wondering why there were such young children in the castle. He didn't realize that Dumbledore allowed that.

Eliza laughed softly when Lexi reached for her face and made faces at her niece. Lexi giggled at her while Julius just sort of...watched silently. She worried about him sometimes. He was sort of spacey. Maybe it was something that he'd outgrow, but she'd always thought the he was too quiet for such a little kid. Since her sister wasn't worried, though, she didn't bring it up; Bri wouldn't listen to her if she did. Damned hardheaded woman. Eliza still didn't quite understand the paradox that had caused her to be brought back in time at seventeen and Brielle at fifteen. It was weird to be two years older than someone that you still thought of as your older sister...

She turned to face the blonde kid that had joined them in the owlery with a smile.

"Hm? It is being fine. I am Eliza," she introduced herself. "Und these two are Lexi and Julius."

Scorpius stepped closer, "I'm Scorpius," he smiled, "you're not English are you?" He looked at her, "Russian, perhaps, German, maybe?" He was guessing based of her accent, knowing from her grammar than she was not fluent in English. "Are they yours?" he asked, not meaning to sound rude, but knowing that it was always possible. He looked at the two little ones. The one, Julius, he guessed, seemed very quiet. Rather unusually quiet, actually. Lexi, on the other hand, looked like a normal, bright, happy little girl. They did look similar to Eliza, though not exactly like her. Perhaps family members and not her own children? He would probably find out soon, he presumed. Hopefully he could understand her, he never was terribly good with talking to people who didn't understand much English.

"I am from East Germany," she confirmed with a wry smile. "So perhaps a little of both. The twins are mein sister's; she is being in class right now."

Lexi responded to the attention by gurgling happily and turning her hair pink, and Julius just...stared, like always. She couldn't help but laugh a little. He wasn't the first that assumed that she was the twins' mother; she was past the point where it got on her nerves, though it did at first. There were worst assumptions that had been made about Eliza. One of her Housemates, for example, was convinced that she was a Communist spy. She wanted to chalk it up to that particular muggleborn watching too many movies when they went home, but it was starting to seem like they genuinely believed it...

Scorpius smiled at Lexi's reaction, "metamorphagus, I see." She was the first he had seen since Teddy Lupin, who was his year mate's god-sibling. "Reminds me of someone I used to know." The only difference was that Teddy's hair color of choice was a bright blue-green most often, unless he thought of his mother, when it was neon pink. "There aren't many people from Germany in Hogwarts, usually they attend other magic schools. Why did you choose here?" Scorpius was honestly curious, he knew very little of people from other countries and he would use this opportunity he was given, even if it was a strange one. He was sure that Eliza met some racism from students at Hogwarts. There were few non-British people in the school, a few Americans, but little other than that. Eliza was sure to deal with a lot of rude people who did not understand her or why she was there.

"Ah, ja. I guess it's something that pops up in their vatti's side," she explained with a laugh. "His cousin is one, too. Funny little thing."

She considered his question. There were a whole slew of reasons that she had ultimately decided to go to Hogwarts, even though she'd had basically no prior knowledge of English. There were a lot of schools in the East, true. Her father had gone to Durmstrang, and her mother the Magical Academy of Berlin. Eliza had had her heart set on going to Hogwarts since she first heard about it, though...how to explain.

"Well....ja, there are a lot of schools where I'm from," she admitted thoughtfully. "But even the Magical community of Eastern Germany is sort...Communist, I guess? And I never really agreed with that. Hogwarts is a western school, and the teachers do not have limits on what they are permitted to teach like they do back home, if that is making any sense?"

"That's strange, it's such a rare trait. To have it pop up so often in such a small area..." Scorpius thought for a second before shrugging, "perhaps it's just becoming a more common trait."

He watched her as she thought about how to answer, she was a very attractive girl, though nothing in comparison to Rose. He wondered why so many people were frightened of her, she didn't seem mean at all, the only scary thing about her was her height.

"No, it makes perfect sense. The teachers there can't teach anything that goes against the country's... political beliefs? Whereas here they can teach whatever they believe to be best for their students. I guess it's a good reason to come here." He really did understand. The language barrier wasn't as bad as he first figured it would be, she was actually pretty good with English. "How did you hear about Hogwarts if you lived so far away? Magical folk here rarely talk about other magical schools and I can't believe it'd be any different there?" He asked the question while watching the two little ones. He wasn't much for kids but they were rather adorable.

"It might be," she agreed.

She figured that most people were probably just freaked out by how tall she was; most of the other students at Hogwarts were shorter than she was. Up until Godric, she hadn't met many people that were taller than her, even in her native Germany. It could have also had something to do with her natural tendency to keep to herself, but, in her defense, she still wasn't totally confident with her English skills.

"Mein vater worked with an Englishman," she explained. "He was working as a dragonologist with Vatti, and he told me about Hogwarts."

She glanced down at her niece and nephew to find Lexi still happily babbling away in baby-talk and Julius asleep. That was...basically what she'd expected.
