A Different You (Morgan)

Raine had gotten the apprenticeship she currently held due to her sight, and now she would learn something new of her mentor, again from her sight. She had seen a woman, Lady Morgana, as a younger fay, from the age she had been during the time of the founders. She was curious about her mentor. Lady Morgana had a lot of sadness in her that Raine knew was from her past, but of that past she knew very little. Her sight had shown her where this woman would be on this day, and she decided to learn what she could of the younger woman. She wandered Hogsmeade, looking in store windows, hoping she would run into Morgan. She knew that Morgan would quickly figure out who she was, despite her her lack of sight. Raine learned from Morgana that she was very obviously part fay, even if it was only a very small part. There was also something about the Lady of the Lake and any apprentices she held that was easily seen by other fay relations. Raine was never quite sure what it was.

Morgan was curious about Hogsmede. She had never actually visited the village, having never seen a real reason to go, but now she had been instructed by Dumbledore to lay low for some time, so she figured that she may as well. She had a feeling that it was important. Though she lacked the sight, she had the occasional gut feeling that usually proved true. She went down and checked out the village, bought a butterbeer and sort of wandered around.

Eventually, she found a girl looking around that she realized was the older her's apprentice. She would have realized it even if the girl hadn't been wearing the crest of House Pendragon.

"It has been long since I last saw anyone wearing that crest," she commented.

Raine smiled, "I knew you would recognize me. Hello, Morgana, I am Raine." Her sight had been correct. This woman was very similar to Lady Morgana. But, her sight was telling her they were two separate people. Of the same body and blood, but of two separate minds and hearts. It seems like whatever sadness Lady Morgana held, this younger Morgana did not. Perhaps some of it, there was traces of the same sadness, but only a part. "You are very different from Lady Morgana," she commented, "full of less sadness. Even my sight hardly recognizes you as the same person. There must be a lot of pain in your future, and for that I apologize."

"Well, I suppose my theories about her are confirmed," she noted. "Shall we go sit somewhere and talk? I can conjure some tea? Do you like tea?"

She wasn't totally sure what to do about her future apprentice. How was she meant to handle someone that knew her but didn't know her? It was just odd, and she detested time paradoxes, yet there she stood, inviting one. Tea would make it better. Tea made everything better, always. Yes, that was how she would fix it. With tea.

Raine did not look surprised at the mention of her theorizing about her future self. "Tea would be wonderful," she smiled at the woman, knowing this might be a very awkward conversation for them both. She wanted to learn more of Lady Morgana's past, but there seemed to be a paradox in what she was doing to try to learn.

Raine almost laughed at the British stereotype that Morgan was portraying. Many non-British believe that the Brits solved everything with tea, and here was Morgan, trying to solve this thing that was her future apprentice by drinking tea.

She waved Raine along towards those interesting little tea rooms that she had located, running through how she would handle this conversation. Morgana liked to plan and think ahead; she became testy when forced to do things off the cuff. She would try to not become irate.

She conjured her tea things with a wave of her wand once they were sitting. She liked this tea set; it had apples on it.

"So. You know the older me," she began.

Raine could sense Morgana's wariness of this visit. She understood that Morgana hated time paradoxes and this qualified as one, in a sense. She also knew that Morgana was planning what to say, what to ask, planning the conversation. Raine only hoped that it went the way Morgana hoped it would.

"Lovely tea set," she said. Being one who deals often with tea sets and tea leaves, Raine had come to appreciate good china.

Raine nodded, "yes, I am her apprentice. She knows not that I am looking for you, though she's learned of your arrival in this time."

She grimaced at the mention of her older self being aware of her presence there. She had known that she would, of course, she knew herself. Even when she was not Lady of the Lake, she'd made a point of always knowing what was going on around her on principle. She did her job, even when it wasn't her job, because she was good at it. She knew that she was good at it, as much as she hated to be good at it.

"Thank you. It was a gift from my brother," she replied with a tiny, fond smile as she poured tea. She was very fond of apples and always had been. Arthur, remembering this, had given her the tea set.

"I had guessed that she would know. I do not possess the sight, but scrying has always been a talent of mine."

Raine understood Morgana's feelings about her older self knowing of her existence in this time. Any sane person would feel the same. Especially if their future self were the Lady of the Lake. Morgana was a great Lady, and that was the only real reason for her knowledge of her past self in this time.

"King Arthur, yes?" she asked, "he sounds like a wonderful brother."

"She keeps a close eye on Hogwarts, lately, I believe her to be watching my interactions. In watching she spotted you and told me of it, though she warned me that talking to you may be hard, or lead to unholy paradoxes."

It was disconcerting to know that she was Lady of the Lake as an adult. Power had never been a fascination of hers, though she found herself in possession of more than she knew what to do with. She hoped that that part of her had remained unchanged, because she knew that she would be worse than Evienne if it did. Her adult self had destroyed one power-hungry fool; Morgan prayed that she had not, then, grown into one herself.

"He was," she agreed, pushing a cup across the table to Raine.

"There is a strange chill that lingers about the halls, one that tends to be associated with dark magic. It concerns me, so I can only imagine how she feels about it."

Raine could feel Morgana's fears of her future self. "You are not a power hungry Lady, Morgan. You have lost your heart and your soul, but you take your job seriously and do not abuse the powers you possess." She looked at Morgan, "you harm no one unless absolutely necessary, and choose to hide things that would cause issues rather than risk entrusting them into the wrong hands. I am, at this moment, learning the whereabouts of many objects that you know of but I wish not discuss in case of outside ears."

Raine looked sad for a moment, "I am sorry about what happened to him," she told Morgan. She felt her sight over take her for just a moment, a prophecy of small enough proportions that she would feel dizzy, but would not faint like usual.

"She watches it carefully. She is glad her newest student lingers in its halls as two sets of eyes are better than one."
