more what your parents named you?”
My name is Colette Dove Griffin. There’s really no meaning behind my name, as far as I know. My mother liked the name Dove, my father didn’t want that to be my first name, so it’s my middle. I think the name Colette is too… soft and lady-like for a girl who grew up in foster care, so I go by Cole. If you call me Colette, unless I really like you, prepare to be hexed into oblivion.
“Remind us again when you were born? I can
never get enough of the story surrounding
your birth.”
I was born on December 30, 1963 on the night of a total lunar eclipse. I don’t know what time I was born, but the story goes that I was born at the maximum point of the eclipse. Muggles believe eclipses have magical properties, maybe that’s why I have the sight, even if it didn’t appear until a little over a year ago.
“Okay, be honest here. Which are you in to
more: guys or dolls? Don't worry, our lips
are sealed.”
I used to be bisexual, finding attraction to both men and women equally. At this moment, I don’t quite trust men anymore. I mean, I’m sure the right man could change my opinion, but for now, I’ll stick to my ladies…
“Alright, on to the good stuff. What do you do
in your spare time? Any favorite past times?”
I do enjoy experimental magic, things like creating new spells and potions, wand-less or non-verbal spells, and raw magic. It’s a dangerous hobby, there leaves so much potential for getting hurt, but it’s one of the few things I truly enjoy.
I enjoy planning revenge. It’s one of the things that put me in Slytherin in the first place. I know exactly what degree of punishment each person deserves for their actions, and I plan creatively around that.
I enjoy flirting with people, and acting on that flirtations. I have become emotionally detached from all things sexual, but I enjoy the physical aspects of it.
I enjoy potions class. Slughorn is a bit of a pushover, but the stuff he teaches is wonderful. I could not properly create potions without using all that I learned in his course.
More than anything, I love taking care of my baby boy. Little Landon is my world. His conception destroyed my life, but his birth and his life has done nothing but brighten it.
“Tell me: what are your favorite things in the
entire world? Those special things that just
make you want to smile?”
The most important thing to me at the moment is my son. He is my everything, and means the world to me.
My potions supplies, including my cauldron, my cabinet of ingredients, and of course my wand are some of my most prized possessions.
I also love this little magical necklace I was given by my mother when I was a small child. It’s a small black opal stone set in an oval locket that opens to reveal a magical picture of her parents and her when she was two. It also held magical essence of the perfume her mother wore, so each time she opened the locket she could smell her mother as she remembered.
Other than those, I don’t have anything I hold dear. I like my clothing, how else can I tease the girls and boys I chase. And I guess my journal is nice, but I don’t care much about the other material things I own.
“And sadly we all know that there are things
that we just can't stand. What are yours?”
Men… I just despise men. I mean, I enjoy teasing them, or screwing them, but I hate them.
Most especially I hate Andrew, Landon’s birth father. He ruined me, I’m still not over the emotional damage he gave me, some two years later.
“Any short or long term goals? Where do
you see yourself five years? In ten? How
do you plan to get there?”
My short term goal at the moment is really just to get through the next few years. Trying to attend school while raising a son is rather difficult. That’s the only goal I can manage at the moment.
In five years I hope I have enough of a job to afford living on my own and supporting Landon. I really don’t want to have to rely on Dumbledore’s help my whole life…
If I’m really lucky, I’ll be working at the Ministry of Magic soon after leaving Hogwarts, working to create new spells or working with experimental magics.
“What makes you quake in your boots?
If you had to pick one thing that scared
you the most, what would it be?”
Honestly, what scares me the most is the thought of ever having to see Andrew again. He doesn’t even know he has a son. I’ve done my very best to keep Landon a secret from him and everyone else. I can’t imagine what he would do if he found out he had a son. I suspect he’d fight for custody, just to screw my life up, and I can’t let him take my son from me. He’s already taken away my ability to trust, I can’t let him take anything else.
“Is there a significant other in your life? How
do you do with relationships?”
I do not currently have any relationship partner. I haven’t had a serious relationship since Andrew, though I’m beginning to open up to the idea of trusting someone again. I want to meet someone, I do, but no one has wanted to attempt to breach the wall I’ve built to protect myself.
“Now, you know that we adore you, but let's
talk about some other people for a little bit. A
little bird told me that you have some pretty
well known parents. Who are they?”
I don’t know the names of my birth parents. I was too young to remember what other people called them, and of course I only ever called them mom and dad. Other than my birth parents, I never really had parents for more than a few months to a year. And none of them are exactly what I’d consider parents. I guess you could say that I have a bad relationship with parents in general.
“Any other important people in your family?
Did you parents have any other children?”
As far as I know, I am an only child.
“How about pets? How many do you have?”
I have no pets of my own. I simply can’t afford any. If I need an owl, I borrow a classmate’s or use one of the school owls.
“Okay, you have to have known that we were
going to ask. What's your biggest and best
kept secret? I won't tell.”
My biggest secret? Other than Landon, I guess my biggest secret is the fact that I was raped at all. I mean, anyone who knows about Landon knows how he was conceived, but some people who don’t know he exists, knows that I have been raped.
“Ok, so who are you loyal to? Dumbledore's
Army, The Dragon's Fire, The Order of the Phoenix,
The Death Eaters, or none of them?”
I am loyal to no group in particular, though I support Dumbledore because he supported me. Going based off that I guess I ally with the Order, but I don’t have any plans to actually involve myself in the war.
“Interesting! Now finally, the last question.
What time are you from, Harry's or the Marauders'?”
The Marauders, I’m a year or two younger than those four annoyances.
